Mr. Miagi and I

I knew how it felt not to “fit in”. You have probably heard the saying “Children say the cruelest things”. They do, not because they have ill intent, but out of ignorance. Their parents often are no help, because they don’t know what to say or do.

girl saddened by gossipThat is why Mr. Miagi and I collaborated on this book. We believe that everyone is unique, and that most unique people would rather have you approach them and ask them why they wear that brace or have that scar, than to stare at them, whisper behind their back, or turn away from them as they pass by.

Our book encourages discussion among our young people on what to do when you encounter someone who is “unique” (which is everyone).

The book is used by public and private schools and by churches as part of their diversity and self esteem lesson plans. You can order it here.

In May of 2002 Mr. Miagi became a registered Pet Therapy Dog through the Sarasota County Florida Humane Society. He visits hospitals, nursing homes, retirement communities and schools whenever possible.
